The Finnish National Nocturia and Overactive Bladder (FINNO) Study (in Finnish: FINNOS-tutkimus) aims to assess the prevalence, natural history, impact, and risk factors for urinary symptoms at population level. In 2003-2004, questionnaires were mailed to 6,000 subjects randomly identified from the Finnish Population Register (aged 18-79; 62.4% response proportion; 53.7% female). The questionnaires elicited information on frequency and bother of urinary symptoms (Methods). Furthermore, information on quality of life, numerous conditions and medications as well as sociodemographic, anthropometric, lifestyle, and reproductive factors were assessed. The main sponsor (unrestricted grants) of the FINNO Study is Pirkanmaa Hospital District (Tampere, Finland).
Drs. Tikkinen, Auvinen and Tammela established the group in 2003 that has become FINNO Study Group. The group includes members with research interests that include urological, urogynecological and geriatric symptoms and diseases, epidemiological methodology, quality of life assessment, knowledge translation, surveys, observational studies and clinical trials. The group provides a rich and international learning environment in collaborative, multi-disciplinary research.
Most of the published FINNO Study articles are available in PubMed. Information is also available here.
