Exchange Destinations in Asia

You can apply for exchange at Asian universities via the bilateral agreements of the UTA. In addition, many faculties have bilateral exchange partners in Asia. You can also apply for exchange via the ISEP exchange programme. It is also possible to apply for summer courses organised by the Nordic Centre at Fudan University in Shanghai and by the Nordic Centre in India.

Particularly in East Asia, knowing the local language is extremely important, but many exchange destinations also offer courses in English.

Short Courses and Researcher Visits

Nordic Centre at Fudan University, Shanghai

Summer courses of the Nordic Centre (NC Fudan)

Nordic Centre at Fudan University, Shanghai, provides students with the opportunity to apply to two-week summer courses titled Doing Business in China and Chinese Politics and Society. Doing Business in China is intended for Master’s level students while Chinese Politics and Society is aimed at Bachelor’s and Master’s level students. The language of instruction is English, and no Chinese proficiency is required.

Further information can be found on the Nordic Centre at Fudan University website. The summer courses are available to students of all fields who have completed the minimum of one academic year of studies at the University of Tampere.

Researcher Visits to Fudan University

Nordic Centre at Fudan University awards travel grants for 2–4 week researcher visits to doctoral students and researchers of its member universities (grant approx. €350/week and €500 for travel costs). The application requires a recommendation from the UTA and an invitation from Fudan University. The host university will arrange a work space and help with accommodation arrangements.

Nordic Centre in India

Nordic Centre in India (NCI) is a consortium formed by 17 Nordic universities, which aims to promote research related to India as well as cooperation between Indian and Nordic universities. NCI organises intensive courses in India both during the academic year and as summer courses.

The course destinations and times vary year by year. The course options for the summer of 2018 will be available in winter. Further information on the courses and practical arrangements can be found on the NCI website.

Applicants are expected to have completed at least one year of university studies depending on the host university. It is possible to apply for multiple courses, but the applicants must indicate which course takes precedence.

Students of the University of Tampere can also apply for the Study in India programme for one year. The programme is subject to a fee. Topical information on payments and applications can be found on the websites mentioned above.

Nordic Centre in India provides researchers and students of its member universities with free accommodation at its residence located in Delhi.

Faculty of Communication Sciences

Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral level students of the Faculty are eligible to apply to Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) in South Korea. Three places are reserved for students of Information Studies. The application periods and procedures are the same as with Erasmus exchange. Also teachers and researchers can apply for exchange at SKKU.

Students can apply for an exchange period in the Japanese Tokyo Institute of Technology (Graduate School of Decision Science and Technology). The exchange is intended for doctoral students or students who will join one of the university’s research teams for the duration of the exchange. A tuition fee must be paid for completing courses. The application periods and procedures are the same as with Erasmus exchange.

Students of Computer Sciences can apply for exchange at German-Jordanian University, School of Informatics and Computing in Jordan. The exchange period is one semester. The application periods and procedures are the same as with Erasmus exchange.

Faculty of Management

Bilateral Partner Universities of the Degree Programme in Business Studies

India

Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon

Master’s level students of Business and Administrative Studies can apply for exchange to MDI. The applicants must have obtained the minimum of 180 credits by the time of departure. The language of instruction is English.

China

HSBC Business School, Peking University, Shenzhen Campus (Hongkong)
Master’s level students of Business and Administrative Studies can apply for exchange to HSBC. The language of instruction is English.

Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JUFE), Nanchang
Students of Business and Administrative Studies can apply for exchange to JUFE. JUFE provides excellent opportunities for studying Chinese. Business courses are offered in English.

Korea

EWHA School of Business, EWHA Womans University, Seoul
Students of Business and Administrative Studies can apply for exchange to EWHA. Plenty of courses offered in English.

Vietnam

University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City
