Obtaining a Degree Certificate

Bachelor’s and master’s degree certificate applications should be filled in on NettiOpsu, in the Graduation section.

Licentiate and doctoral degree certificate applications should be submitted in paper format, using the application forms at the bottom of this page.

People who can provide help and assistance in filling in the degree certificate applications are listed within the faculty-specific guides further down on this page.

General information

  • Remember to check your UTA email account! The person who prepares the degrees will contact you via your UTA email address if they have any questions relating to your application.

  • Prior to filling in the degree certificate application form, make sure that all studies required for your degree structure have been completed and that the courses and module grades have been registered.

  • If you have more than one study right, select the one for which you would like the certificate.

  • Please note that you must have completed your bachelor’s degree prior to applying for a degree certificate for a master’s degree. Please, therefore, make sure to apply for your bachelor’s degree in good time.

  • From application to delivery of a degree certificate takes approximately two weeks (during term time). Check the spring and autumn deadlines for submitting applications on the Important dates page.

  • When they are ready, certificates can be collected from the Registrar’s Office (please see contact information and opening hours) or you can request that the certificate is sent to you by post (please state your postal address on the certificate application). You will receive a notification on the Student’s Desktop when your degree certificate is ready to be collected from the Registrar’s Office or has been posted.

  • Along with the degree certificate, bachelor’s and master’s graduates will receive a free Diploma Supplement, in English, for international use.

  • Do not allocate too many modules to your bachelor’s degree. Plan ahead to decide which courses you want to use for your bachelor’s degree, and which for your master’s. Make sure that you have sufficient courses for your master’s degree too – you cannot use courses that have already been included in your bachelor’s degree for your master’s degree. There is no maximum number of credits for degrees. If you require help in deciding which courses to use for which degree, please contact the guidance staff for your degree programme, such as the study coordinator.

  • Incomplete modules: where possible, try to include the entirety of a module in just one degree. If necessary, you can include incomplete modules as a part of your bachelor’s degree.

  • To be able to apply for a degree certificate, you should still be enrolled in the University. Having enrolled as absent is sufficient. If, however, you have enrolled as absent, no more completed course units or study modules can be entered into your register (including the grade for your thesis). You should therefore remain enrolled as present until all the course units and study modules you have completed have been registered. If the academic semester ends before you can apply for a degree certificate, it is sufficient that you enrol as absent for the following semester. In this case you do not need to pay the Student Union membership fee for the following semester.

Application form on NettiOpsu

  • All bachelor’s degree graduates are expected to respond to the Kandipalaute feedback survey upon applying for a degree certificate. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete.

  • Courses that form part of your degree programme: select the degree programme’s basic and intermediate courses (bachelor’s degree) or advanced courses (master’s degree)

  • Elective courses: Select modules for which you have module grades for this elective subject.

  • Language and communication courses: Select any compulsory language courses and any extra language courses for this bachelor’s degree.

  • Other courses: Here you can select any joint courses or other courses that do not form part of a module.

  • Courses completed abroad: the system includes all courses marked as completed abroad when registered (shown in the register in the Foreign university section). If you believe there is something missing, you can mention this on the last page, in the ‘Further information for the application processor’ field.

  • When applying for a master’s degree certificate, you can select all courses selectable for the application. The application section will only show those courses not included in your bachelor’s degree.

  • In the internationalisation module section the system will offer all internationalisation courses relevant to the degree, and you can select  the courses you wish to include in the module. Please note the categories’ minimum and maximum credit allowances. Further information about the internationalisation module.

  • Appendices to the degree certificate application: A copy of any certificates for previous university-level degrees must be included with the degree certificate application for a master’s degree, if the degree was completed at another institution than the University of Tampere.
If you have received approval to complete just a master’s degree, details of any studies complementary to your previous degree should also be attached.
