BCI is a company focused on the research and development of  bioabsorbable bioactive surgical implants, and the coating procedures required. It intends to be the world's leading developer of new generation drugrelease implants. The company was founded in 1998 as an independent daughter company of its U.S. based parent company Bioabsorbable Concepts Inc. All research and development operations and production is conducted at BCI's facilities in Tampere, Finland. BCI has managed several extensive research programs within neuro(-)surgery and orthopaedics. The company is  currently working on the development of certain drug-release implants.  After successful biomechanical studies the company has commenced in vivo
 testing. It expects to commercialise the developed products after the  clinical trials phase.
