Karolinska
Institute
The
Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm has conducted research into cochlear mechanisms
and mechanisms of hearing loss for many years. The Department and Institute have
advanced research and laboratory facilities (ENT’s research laboratory at Gustaf
the Vth Research Institute) with 13 full time researchers and 2 laboratory
technicians. The laboratory has 2 hearing booths for animal studies, each
equipped with Tucker- Davis brain stem audiometers, confocal microsocopy, and
access to EM-facilities. During recent years ongoing research into cochlear
implantation has also focused on survival of spiral ganglion cells under various
treatment conditions.
