Seminar on Foucauldian Governmentality Perspective

Governmentality forms a sociological research tradition, which originates from the work of Michel Foucault. The tradition consists of studies which strive to consider how the forms of knowledge (governmental rationalities) and the equivalent technologies of power intertwine in the government of life itself.

Foucault himself applied governmentality framework in his studies of the birth of the clinic, the prison, the asylum and the formation of the discourses of sexuality. Scholars inspired by his approach have studied, for instance, change of the social policy, economy, activities of the international organisations and control directed towards different marginal groups.

The seminar of Foucauldian Governmentality Perspective is intended primarily to postgraduate students and researchers. Participants of the seminar work by reading both current and classic articles relevant to the topic. In additition to that, the seminar assembly may examine the particants' own texts. The programme and schedule will be agreed on the first assembly.
