The University of Tampere has granted the Ällästikku award since 1996. The Degree Programme in Information Studies and Interactive Media is the recipient of the Ällästikku annual award for educational development. The Teaching Council decided to grant the Ällästikku award to a degree programme that has very successfully incorporated wide range and knowledge basis when building the degree programme in accordance with the University strategy. A panel consisting of experts on the educational reform suggested suitable candidates for the award.
According to the panel, the wide range of the degree programme can be seen in the students’ ability to build such study paths right from the start that are relevant professionally and in terms of the subject matter and that also fit the students’ personal interests. Studies in the programme do not narrow the choice of available Master’s Programmes either.
”In addition, the degree programme offers meaningful optional studies to students in the other degree programmes. The learning outcomes are based on a good understanding of the field and they have been written from the perspective of the degree.”
”The degree programme shows that there is a strong grasp of how the knowledge basis is built with an eye on the society and working life, without compromising the academic goals,” the panel says.
The Teaching Council made a unanimous decision on the winner. The Council also decided to name the following degree programmes as especially commendable without putting them in any particular order:
• Degree Programme in Literary Studies
• Degree Programme in Social Sciences
• Degree Programme in Health Sciences
• Degree Programme in Computer Sciences
