The applicants must have studied at the University of Tampere for at least one year. Students cannot apply to study abroad for a period for which they do not have the right to study at the University of Tampere. The places are confirmed finally when the host universities accept the students.

Language requirements

Argentina: a good command of Spanish

Barbados: a good command of English

Brazil: a satisfactory command of Portuguese or a good command of Spanish

Canada: a good command of English or French depending on the host university. Each host university may have its own requirements concerning proof of language proficiency.

Chile: a good command of Spanish

Jamaica: a good command of English

Mexico: a good command of Spanish. Applicants to Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey are also expected to have a good command of English.

United States: a good command of English. Michigan Technological University and The University of Oregon usually do not require a TOEFL test from students of the University of Tampere, if the applicants can otherwise demonstrate a good command of English. Depending on the applicant's field of study, a GRE or GMAT test may however be required depending on the field and level of study. Test scores are not yet required during this application period but those nominated for an exchange may submit them later.

Successful applicants are exempted from paying tuition fees at the host university but are responsible for covering their own accommodation and living costs. Students selected to the exchange programmes receive a travel grant from the University of Tampere.

Please return also the required enclosures (a transcript of academic records, a motivation letter, study plan and Curriculum Vitae in the host country's language of studies) to the International Office A129, by 3 pm on Monday 7 November. In addition, students enrolled in Master's degree programmes (the separate two-year Master's programmes, not ‘ordinary' Master's degrees)  should enclose a statement from a supervisor of her/his Master's thesis in which the supervisor supports the student's application to the given host university.
