
Research and teaching in the School are intended to respond to the increasing demands for information technology in today's society. The School offers teaching and engages in research on the development of new technology and information services based on research findings. Research conducted focuses on the methods and techniques of information organization, processing and use. Research in the School enjoys international respect and appreciation.
The School of Information Sciences hosts three research centers:
TAUCHI research center conducts a research program called Human and information technology (old department page). The professor responsible for the program is prof. Roope Raisamo. The program is part of Human and technology research program at UTA.

The research conducted in the School has been evaluated by two external assessments:
In 2007 Computer Sciences research in Finland was assessed by an international group of experts for the Academy of Finland.
