Plagiarism

Knowing and acknowledging the origin of information used is one of the key academic values. Plagiarism means to use and to pass off other person's work as one's own. Plagiarism is forbidden in all phases of studies and in all courses. Other persons' work must be always appropriately referred to and acknowledged. When hesitating what to do, you can ask your teacher for an advice. Computer Sciences will collect a data base of students' assignments and essays and they will be compared against each others and against other electronic material available.

Computer Sciences applies the procedure for handling possible cases of plagiarism as described on UTA page Misconduct. The matter is first handled with the teacher and the student. If they do not find a consensus, the matter is transferred to the dean of the school and possible further to the rector of the university.

You should inform the teacher, if you are planning to use a material that you have already use as an assignment or an essay in any other previous course.

For more info visit UTA page Academic Ethics.

Detailed description of the process on Rector’s decision 5 December 2013 on the responsible conduct of research and procedures for handling allegations of misconduct, pdf (available in the intranet)
