A paper ("Scientometric Analysis Of The CHI Proceedings") by Christoph Bartneck and Jun Hu from Eindhoven University of Technology will be published at the CHI 2009 conference in Boston. The full statistics are already available on the net at http://www.bartneck.de/projects/research/chi2009/.
In total credits (one paper equals one credit, which is split equally across all authors), the University of Tampere ranks as the top Finnish university, and 29th overall, with a total score of 20.28 for the 1999-2008 conferences. If citations are taken into account, the rank is even higher (tied for 18th), with an h-index of 9.
Overall, Finland is doing extremely well. When the totals are scaled based on size of population, Sweden ranks highest with a score of 15.572, followed by Finland with a score of 15.075. The runners up are Canada and USA, with scores of 12.364 and 12.246. But of course, in totals the research scene is dominated by the Anglo-American community.
This analysis does not tell everything, and there's more to HCI research than CHI. But it's nice to be doing well anyway!
