Game Research Lab (GameLab)

The Game Research Laboratory in the University of Tampere is a top facility for qualitatively and quantitively oriented games research.

GameLab is also a multidisciplinary research group, combining approaches from several mutually complimentary academic disciplines, and specializing in games research. It is constantly developing methodologies and building digital and physical research environments as well as designing new tools that are suitable for the study of games, game players and in game design research.

Its special focus is on socio-cultural research in 1) Player research 2) Game research & analysis, and  3) Game design (with intermediate areas, like player experience research).

The current research projects in the Game Lab have particular focus on comprehensive studies of games cultures, game design methodologies, playful innovation and also on emerging game forms such as hybrid and pervasive games, and the future mobile, multiplayer or location-aware games.

For further information about the group and its activities, please contact Prof. Frans Mäyrä.
