General course guidelines

Important - All students should check these

Notice that there are some minor changes in current course / Demola practises when compared to guidelines above, but in general information is usefull.

Credits

Credits are based on amount of (productive) work in your project. 1 ECTS corresponds to 20 hours of work in your project (5 ECTS equals to 100-119 working hours, 10 ECTS equals to >200 hours). All students should work at least 100 hours for their project. Workings hours are reported weekly in the project blog and in the final project report.

Grading

Grading is passed / failed.

Group forming

Students can apply to different projects. Based on the applications, course staff will form the groups.  There will be students from other local universities (Tampere University of Technology, Tampere University of Applied Sciences) and exchange students in your group.

Working in a project group

All team members should be active and give their best to their project. Projects last about four months, and during that time team members should be able to learn new skills needed by the project.

If there are team members that do not contribute positively to their project, they can be taken out from the course. Passive participation and other similar problems can be discussed in the reviews.

Compulsory course deliverables

Each group should return during the course at least the following documents

  • Playbook (Project plan).
  • Project blog (weekly / biweekly updates).
  • Working hours (weekly, team maintains these internally for each team member).
  • Results (final playbook, demo and other project-related material).
  • Answers to questions in the Moodle after the project.

Also, depending on the project topic, other documents might be needed. For example, concept design document, some usability (like a usability analysis, user interface specification, usability test report, etc.) or technical documentation (requirements, use cases, etc.). Additional deliverables should be mentioned in the project plan.

Presentations

During the course all teams give several pitches (presentations) on their project. Demola will give more information on this during the project.

Meeting

During the project there are some official meetings where the team invites all stakeholders.

Playbook meeting - "Project plan review"

In the playbook meeting, team, partner and teachers agree what has been written in the Playbook. The team should send the Playbook a two days beforehand to all participants. The Demola facilitator gives more information on Playbook meeting arrangements.

Other meetings and final meeting

The team should meet the project partner regularly. Teachers can be invited to these meetings, especially if the meeting is some kind of milestone meeting with a demo.

In the end of the project, the team returns the final version of the Playbook and sends it the to all stakeholders. In the meeting, the team can give a final demo. The Playbook and team's experiences are discussed.
