Student Exchange - Instructions for Applicants

These instructions are updated prior to beginning of each application period and they are preliminary until the start of the application round.

Additional Application period I: 15 - 30 March 2017

Universities and networks open for applications

The applicants must have studied at the University of Tampere for at least one year. Students cannot apply to study abroad for a period for which they do not have the right to study at the University of Tampere. Doctoral students are advised to contact the international coordinators of the Centre for International Education for information
on their exchange options.

At the host university, students are exempt from tuition fees, but cover their housing and living expenses themselves. Those selected for student exchange will automatically receive a grant. The places are finally confirmed when the host universities accept the students.

The lists of the universities, persons to contact for further information as well as the language requirements are available at:

Fill in the application form in Student's Desktop (in NettiOpsu).

You can apply for a maximum of five choices. For each choice you apply for, you must write a motivation letter and a preliminary study plan in the host university’s language of study (for networks (eg. Russia Pilot, Nordplus) you have to write a motivation letter and a preliminary study plan for each university you apply to). In your motivation letter, please remember to mention everything you think will support your application e.g.:How will the exchange period benefit your studies? Why is the exchange period beneficial from the point of view of your career plans?

  • Why do you apply for the particular university at this point of your studies?
  • Other information you consider beneficial, e.g. your former work experience, volunteering and positions of responsibility

Enclosures are required from the following students:

  • students of two-year Master’s degree programmes must submit a supporting statement from the supervisor of their Master’s thesis
  • students who want their studies taken in another university to be considered must submit a copy of their transcript of records or their degree certificate.

The enclosures must be submitted by the application deadline to:

  • the International coordinator of the school (field-specific exchanges)
  • the International Office (all other exchanges)

Contact information for submitting the enclosures can be found at:

The applicants will be informed about the decisions on Student's Desktop (in NettiOpsu) and by e-mail on 7 April 2017 at the latest. The place offered must be accepted by the student on Student's Desktop (in NettiOpsu) by 15 April 2017.
