Taking Doctoral studies

Study Guides

Faculty of Information Sciences Study Guide for postgraduate (Doctoral) studies 2010-2010  gives the requirements and guidelines for both applicants for postgraduate studies and students taking postgraduate studies. Please notice the following changes made in 2010 and 2008:

  • From 1 August 2010 the number of paper copies of the Doctoral dissertation, submitted to the Faculty ten days before the public defence, is 10 copies (instead of 20)
  • All postgraduate students are to take their studies according to the latest Study Guide; all enrolled students have been transferred in 2008 to the new study system where studies are calculated in ECTS credits (opintopiste)
  • A dissertation grading committee, appointed by the Head of Department for each dissertation, proposes a grade for the dissertation
  • The scale now used in grading licentiate theses and doctoral dissertations is: 'Fail', 'Approved' and 'Approved with disctintion'. The grade 'Approved with disctintion' is to be awarded only to those theses and dissertations which are among the best 10 %.
