All Bachelor and Master students registering present for the academic year are required to pay the Tamy Student Union membership fee (around 90 euros per year). For doctoral students the Tamy membership is optional and lower.
Tamy is organised in smaller student organisations with students of the same major subject forming an organisation. These student organisations are an important part of the University administration, as they nominate the student members in the department council and the faculty council. Student organisations provide student tutors for the new Bachelor and Master students, both international and Finnish alike.
Student organisations are active also in organising events where students can meet both each other and employers of the region.
