Graduation

Master's degree

Due to the restructuring of the University organisation, Degree Certificates will not be written from 1st January 2011 until 14 January 2011. After 14 January, Degree Certificates will be produced by the new schools. Before the turn of year, Degree Certificates will be issued by the faculties.

All those wanting to graduate by 31 December 2010 must submit their degree diploma application by 3 December (even if not attending the graduation ceremony). All studies must be registered into the UTA study register by the end of 2010.

Students wanting to graduate must fill in and submit an application form for a degree diploma to the Faculty Office (Ms. Minna Heinonen). Application form is available on the Forms page. Students graduating from the Department of Computer Sciences should first check the Department's page on Master's thesis process and graduation.

From 1 August 2008, all students have been graduating from the ECTS compatible opintopiste system (1 local credit = 1 ECTS credit).

You can submit the application for the degree diploma even if all the studies have not yet been registered in the UTA study register. However, when handing in the application please give details on which course units have not been registered.

When applying for the degree diploma, please notice that you may register absent for the term when you make the application only if all the studies taken have been registered in the UTA study register (for example, all the studies have been registered in December and you intend to graduate in early January). If any of the studies - including the thesis - has not been taken into the study register, you must register as present for the term and thus pay the Tamy fee, too, for the term.

It takes about two weeks to get the degree diploma. In summer, the process takes longer due to vacations.

The UTA graduation ceremony celebrating new graduates is held at the end of each term. The next ceremony will take place on 10 December 2010. The ceremony is optional, and no diplomas are handed to the graduates during the ceremony.

The degree diploma application is to be handed in one week before the ceremony at the latest, and the graduate can choose whether to pick up the diploma at the Registrar's Office or to have it sent to the home address.

Bachelor and Master graduates are automatically given together with the diploma and final transcript also a Diploma Supplement (Europass page) in English.

For information on how graduation affects your rights to use Tamy and University Library services etc. please see the UTA Graduation page.

Doctor's degree

After finishing the doctoral studies, you must make an application for your doctoral diploma. Please fill in and submit an application form for a degree diploma to the Faculty Office (Ms. Sivi Aalto). Application form is available on the Forms page.

Supplementing your Master's degree

After finishing the Master's degree, it is possible to apply for supplementing studies. More information on Supplementing studies page.
