Orientation Course (programme) arranged by the International Office is available free of charge for both degree and exchange students at the beginning of both autumn and spring semester. The course is compulsory for all new Master degree students.
Links to the Master's degree programmes given in English in the Faculty (Department of Computer Sciences page). The tutor teacher (student advisor) in the Master's programmes gives detailed information to students on the content of the studies and helps the students in planning and updating their HOPS personal study plan.
The International Officer in the Faculty Office gives general information on studying, especially on the structure of studies and language studies.
The ECTS Survival Guide is available printed from the International Office. The guide offers practical information on studying and living in Tampere. The guide is available on-line on the UTA page.
The Faculty Study Guide 2010-12 (pdf) for the Master's degree programmes in English is available online. New degree students will get a printed copy after their arrival.
The old Faculty Study Guide 2008-2010 (pdf) was valid until the end of July 2010.
The Study Guide gives detailed information on the structure of the Master's degree programmes offered, course unit details, regulations, assessment and grading. Also the required language and complementing studies are listed. There is also information on many practical aspects of studying.
Old students transferring to the new study system are to follow the latest Study Guide regarding the language studies.
Much the same information as in the Faculty Study Guide is available in the UTA Curricula Guides, but please notice that only the Faculty Study Guide in printed or pdf form is the full version.
UTA Teaching Schedules list the course units and exams available this academic year. Please notice that the teaching programmes are not repeated identically each year, i.e. courses taught this year will not be automatically given next academic year. The next year's teaching programmes are normally available in late May.
In Teaching Schedules, there are also course units that are offered through self-study, either closed book exams or essays. Look out for these under 'Desciptions of course units in the curriculum'. For example in Computer Sciences the list is here.
All degree students are required to take language studies both in Finnish and in English. For more information, please see Language studies link on the left panel.
JOO studies in other Finnish universities are available for degree students.
All degree students are required to do a Maturity test in connection with their Master's thesis. For more information please see the Faculty Study Guide 2010-12, p. 9-10.
All students who had started their studies at UTA before 1 August, 2005,
and who had not finished their degree by 31 July 2008, must now take
their studies under a new system. The studies are now calculated in opintopiste
(op) credits. One opintopiste equals one ECTS credit. These
students should contact their programme tutor teacher to update their
personal study plan.
Transferring students are to follow the latest version of the Faculty Study Guide regarding their language studies.
Language studies are compulsory. Transferring students are to take a diagnostic test of English given by the Language Center. Please arrange a test time by sending e-mail to itseopiskelustudio (at) uta.fi. The test score is used to decide which English courses are needed.

The SITR web site offers cross-institutional studies taught in English for the international exchange students already studying at one of the universities in the Tampere Region. Some Studia Generalia courses are open also for degree students. The SITR news page contains news in English on the Finnish way of life.
