Tampere Graduate Program in Biomedicine and Biotechnology - TGPBB
University of Tampere, Finland

Student application and registration to TGPBB How to act?

All students currently involved or planning to start work towards their PhD or MD/PhD degree in research groups associated with the Tampere Graduate School in Biotechnology and Biomedicine can apply for registration to TGPBB.

In order to register the student must fill in the application and registration form and send it together with the required appendices to the Coordinator of TGPBB
(Merja Helenius,  merja.helenius@uta.fi) both in electronic and printed form. A supervision agreement signed by the supervisor must also be provided. For further information about student registration, please contact the TGPBB Coordinator either by e-mail (merja.helenius@uta.fi) or by phone +358-3-3551 6666.

In addition, all new students need to register immediately as a doctoral student at the University of Tampere or Tampere Technical University as well as register their thesis project at their faculty (Instructions).
All registered TGPBB students must also follow the general regulations for all graduate students in their Faculty.

Advantages

The advantages for registered students include:

  • Students who earn their PhD or MD/PhD degree from the graduate school will be given a diploma to certify the practical and theoretical state of art training in biotechnological and biomedical sciences
  • The students of TGPBB are eligible for applying travel funds from the school
  • Those students who are registered have priority to participate in TGPBB organized courses and seminars when the number of participants is limited
  • The role of TGPBB is not to substitute that of the supervisor of the PhD project, but the school may be of help should problems or conflicts arise

Commitments

Registration and PhD graduation with a diploma from TGPBB requires commitment by the student to the policies of TGPBB. Compared to the "traditional" PhD-training TGPBB emphasizes the importance of regular follow up of progress, an active role of the Thesis Committee, and a curriculum for the theoretical studies required for PhD degree. The school also encourages collaboration between other Finnish and international research groups and promotes professional attitude towards research.
