PALMSE MOIS SUMMER SCHOOL IN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY 2010
|
Tampere Graduate School in Biomedicine and Biotechnology (TGSBB) and the Estonian Graduate School in Biomedicine and Biotechnology (EGSBB).will once again hold a joint residential summer school in molecular biology in 2010. Venue and dates The summer school will be held at Palmse Mois, the most beautiful of Estonia's historic manor houses, situated within Lahemaa National Park, from 11-18 June (arrival in Estonia 10 June). Subject area and topics The summer school will cover, from different angles, the molecular pathways by which organisms regulate growth and metabolism in response to energy demand, nutrition and stress. Data from different model organisms, including yeast, Drosophila and mammals, will be considered. The topics to be covered include:

Minisymposium The Palmse Mois Minisymposium (16 June 2010) will be open to outsiders attending just for the day. It will showcase the contributions of researchers in the Nordic region to the study of mitochondria, metabolism and homeostasis. Participation and fees Students wishing to attend the school must commit to the full week. The course fee includes full-board accommodation in twin rooms and travel to Palmse from/to Tallinn harbour or Tartu. The fee will be partially waived, upon application, for registered students of TGSBB or EGSBB who are accepted to the course. Other students who are accepted should apply for financial support from their own graduate school or other sponsoring organization to cover the costs of attendance. Those attending only the minisymposium will be charged a registration fee of EUR 150, covering meals and accommodation for 2 nights (EUR 180 in single room).
Applicants Graduate students in biomedicine and molecular biology are encouraged to apply, ranging from those who will graduate in 2010 to those who are just beginning their research. A prior involvement with research on metabolism or on mitochondria is NOT required. Early applications are advised, since a maximum of 30 students will be accepted (at most 15 from Finland and 15 from Estonia). The course is valued at 4 ECTS credits. How to apply Send a CV and a one-page statement of your research activities and career goals, stating why you wish to attend the school. Applications must be sent electronically to Päivi Manninen at IMT (paivi.manninen@uta.fi), no later than 30 March 2010. All applications will be acknowledged, and the outcome communicated at the end of March 2010. Applications for attending only the minisymposium will be invited later. |
