LIIKE - Research Programme on Finnish Companies and the Challenges of Globalization - Business as Competition and Cooperation

LIIKE Programme in a Nutshell
LIIKE is the first national research programme funded in collaboration with the Academy of Finland and the National Technology Agency Tekes in the field of business studies. The total financial input for the programme is 36 FIM Mill (6 Mill euros). The three year programme (2001-2004) focuses on the changes of Finnish companies and their management under the pressure of knowledge-based competition and finance-driven economy. The key question in the programme deals with the management competence of Finnish companies as an integral part of companies' capacity to benefit from technological and knowledge-based intellectual, social and cultural capital. The programme attempts to shed light upon the internal processes to meet the global challenges.

Projects and Themes
Seventeen research projects were accepted to the programme after an international panel review. The projects tackle the programme focus from different angles. Broad themes include the following:
1. Organization and leadership cultures and practices that nurture the development of new business competence. Issues such as changing organizations, knowledge creation and transfer, shared leadership, and empowered customers' new position are of interest here.
2. New organizational forms and new technologies as a source of value-added. Doing business in various networks, developing electronic businesses are keen areas in this theme. Also regional innovation systems are studied.
3. Globalization of business. Different aspects of international business competence and internationalization processes are in focus here.
