Remember to arrange accommodation for yourself already before departure for Finland according to the instructions given to you by your host university. The housing situation in general is difficult in Tampere especially in autumn, when many students (both foreign and Finnish) are seeking for accommodation, so it is good to apply for accommodation as soon as possible. Here are some tips for finding accommodation in Tampere.
There are three big student housing companies in Tampere: TOAS -> in English (Tampere Student Housing Foundation), Opintanner -> in English (housing for students of any post-comprehensive educational institutions in Tampere and for young working people under the age of 30), and IOT -> in English (primarily only for students of TAMK). Usually the universities in Tampere advise their students primarily to apply for accommodation through TOAS.
You can also try to look for an accommodation through other sources like internet (useful links given below), newspapers (e.g. “Aamulehti” – the local newspaper in Tampere Region) or private persons (e.g. ads, notice boards). Please note that students should be very careful when making rental agreements in the private sector.

- here are also adverts for apartments in other cities like Helsinki/Turku etc. on this website, so make sure you have the right town. The good thing is, you can both browse through the rented out -adverts and also leave your own advert for free. 'Tarjotaan vuokralle' means available apartments that are rented out and 'Etsitään vuokra-asuntoa' means people looking for a room/apartment (you can leave your own advert here in 'lisää uusi etsitään vuokra-asuntoa ilmoitus'). You can write in English, but make sure you make clear you're looking for something in Tampere.
Vuokraovi.com -> in English | Oikotie.fi - these two are commercial housing agencies. Their websites work pretty much on the same basis. You can't leave your own advert, but you can browse through for rent 'adverts and contact the lessor if you're interested. Please write 'Tampere' in the field called 'alue'.
CasaSwap.com - CasaSwap is a free international housing network, where you can rent, sublet & swap accommodation with other members from all over the world. You can find a place to stay, get a roommate, and exchange your own room, apartment or house. Furthermore you can sublet your own room/housing, and at the same time you can get in contact with like-minded people from all over the world!
