Traveling in Finland and traveling from Finland to other countries is easy. Finland has a good railway network and with long-distance buses it is possible to reach most of the places, which you can’t reach by train. Renting a car is easy but expensive. Different airline companies offer both domestic and international flights. Traveling by ferries to other nearby countries (Estonia, Sweden, Russia and the island of Åland in Finland) is also very popular in Finland. Students are entitled to student discounts in the trains and long-distance buses if they have a valid Finnish student card or a special Train and Long-Distance Bus Student Card.

Tips for Trips
Finland has a lot to offer for a traveler ranging from cities full of interesting things to experience to the peace and quiet of the beautiful nature and wilderness. Places worth a visit besides Tampere include for example the capital city Helsinki, Lapland, archipelago and coastal areas in Finland and different nature areas with lakes and forests.
Cities within reasonable distance (2-3 hours of journey by bus/train) from Tampere include for example the capital city Helsinki, the city of Turku, the city of Hämeenlinna, the city of Pori, the city of Rauma, the city of Naantali, the city of Lahti and the city of Jyväskylä. Day-Trips can be made also to the idyllic little towns in Tampere Region like for example to Ikaalinen, Kangasala, Mänttä, Nokia and Virrat.
In the summertime it is possible to do lake cruises from Tampere to the nearby cities. The VisitTampere Tourist Office of Tampere offers also many kinds of trips and sightseeing tours in Tampere and in Tampere Region.
Spending free time outdoors and at a cottage is very popular in Finland. Tampere has many recreation areas and in the vicinity of Tampere there are also national parks and other outdoor areas. There are many rental cottages available around Tampere and in Finland.
