29.11. The First Advent Sunday and Starting of Christmas Preparations

The time of Advent begins on 29th of November, which is the first Advent Sunday. The time of Advent consists of four Advent Sundays before Christmas and during this time people start to prepare themselves for the Christmas celebration. In Finland people might celebrate the Advent Sundays by lighting candles (one candle on the first Advent Sunday, two on the second, three on the third and four on the fourth), or by going to a church for example to listen to a Christmas concert.

During the Advent time people begin to do various Christmas preparations, which include baking & cooking, sending Christmas cards, cleaning and decorating the house, buying and wrapping presents and planning the Christmas celebration.
