Tampere and other Finlandīs biggest cities go green

The mayors of Finland’s largest cities, including Tampere, have committed themselves to reducing their cities’ energy consumption to help combat global warming.

The mayors of Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere, Vantaa, Turku and Oulu presented six initiatives which they plan to implement. Proposed measures include energy-efficient building plans, stricter regulations and more support for citizen’s climate-friendly actions. Earlier this year, the mayors established a climate network of city leaders to promote ecologically efficient city development. It seeks out new initiatives, increases cooperation and disseminates best practice.
