14.2. Ystävänpäivä - Valentine´s Day in Finland

Valentine's Day is called ystävänpäivä in Finland which translates into "Friend's day". Ystävänpäivä is more about remembering your friends than your loved ones.

Many Finns send postcards to their friends on this day wishing them "Hyvää ystävänpäivää!". Some Finns, especially children also give small gifts to their friends on this day. A heart is the shape that is usually related to ystävänpäivä.

Ystävänpäivä is a new tradition in Finland. It appeared in the Finnish Calendar in 1987 but became rapidly the second most popular day for sending greeting cards. (During Christmas time the Finns send the most greeting cards.)

Hyvää ystävänpäivää! - Happy Valentine´s Day!
