18.6. From regions to cities: the politics of the shifting scales of university engagement

Professor David Charles (European Policies Research Centre, University of Strathclyde) gives a guest lecture. Paavo Koli -lecture hall, Pinni A building, UTA.

David Charles is a Professor of Regional Economic Development and Policy in the University of Strathclyde. He specializes in European regional innovation policy, innovative clusters, university engagement with business and communities, and urban competitiveness.

Professor Charles was the David Goldman Chair of Business Innovation in the Newcastle University Business School. He served as a director of research and alternate head of the school for three years. He also established a new research centre on Knowledge, Innovation, Technology and Enterprise (KITE). He moved from there to Curtin University in Perth, Australia where he was dean of research in the Business faculty before moving to Strathclyde in Scotland.

Professor Charles is a docent of regional studies at the University of Tampere.
