Annually 40 000 university students study in the Tampere Region. Around 1500 of them are incoming exchange students and 1500 international degree students.
The three institutions of higher education with 40 000 students, NOKIA Research and Development Centers, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and R&D oriented business life, as well as active local authorities, have made the Tampere Region a highly active centre of expertise, research, development and innovation. Tampere is also well-known as a hometown of Nokia and for its ambitious development programmes such as eTampere, BioNext, and CreativeTampere.
