My doctoral thesis Heterosexual dynamics with a difference? Affective attachments in mid- to later-life women's narration on relationships with younger men. focuses on mid- to later-life women's experiences of heterosexual relationships. For this study, I interview women who have experience of a relationship with a substantially younger man and I focus on the narrative and affective qualities of women'n narration. The political and social climate around intimate relationships has undergone changes and heterosexual relationships have become more diversified. Nevertheless, the everyday experiences of heterosexuality are still founded through gendered conventions. In relationships with younger men, women are positioned somewhat differently within the gendered conventions, such as reproduction and care, and I am interested whether the age difference challenges these conventions. The analysis focuses on the discursive resources that are available for women in making sense of their experiences and on the affective attachments in the narration.
