You'll find general information about studying in English at the University of Tampere in Study pages.
The philosophy courses are mainly offered only in Finnish. There are occasional lectures or lecture series given by visitors or by regular staff that are given in English. The list of such course units can be found online in our Curricula Guides. Information about these can be found also on the philosophy bulletin board (Pinni B, 4th floor nearby the office rooms of the teachers). It is nevertheless possible to study philosophy in English at the University of Tampere by taking book exams and writing essays.
Book examinations, essays
Most of the study modules in Philosophy can be completed by taking a book exam of books in English. In intermediate and advanced studies it is also possible (and recommendable) to write essays, but the subject and length of the essay must always be agreed with the professor concerned. In any questions contact the teacher responsible for the course or the study module in question.
The list of the study modules and the teachers who are responsible of them can be found HERE. The students should contact the responsible teacher if they are planning to complete a study module by writing an essay.
Electronic enrollment to book exams is in use and can be done in WENTTI. Add the request for the questions in English in the enrollment.
The most book exams of the Basic studies and some of the Intermediate studies must be taken within Electronic exam service, where students can reserve individual exam time.
Results of the exams can also be found in WENTTI.
