Ongoing study projects
Schools have an important role for both academic and social-emotional development in children. Together at School (Yhteispeli in Finnish) is a school intervention, developed by THL and Ylöjärvi city, which aims to support the development of social and emotional skills in schools. The main study, conducted by THL, tests the effectiveness of the Doing It Together-intervention. The part of the study conducted in University of Tampere focuses on the skills underlying children’s social-emotional behavior, involving executive function, ability to understand social-emotional information, and prosocial tendencies. The study tests how the Doing It Together -intervention shapes the development of these skills. Furthermore, the study explores how parenting and teaching styles together shape children’s social-emotional development and mental health. Finally, the study examines whether children’s social-emotional skills mediate or moderate the effectiveness of the intervention.
