Education: Ph.D. Candidate (Regional Studies), Master of Administrative Sciences (Local and Regional Governance)
Nordling has six years of experience from academic research, which includes research conducted in Finland, Sweden and Brazil. Recently she has gained practical experience on innovation policies and innovation platforms as devices for city-development as project specialist in the 6Cities development program (ERDF, 2015-2018), which aims to create new business, know-how and jobs in Finland. The project deals with bottom-up development, where open innovation platforms work as policy devices and practical tools to include wider groups of people into development and innovation activities nationally.
Nordling´s dissertation (2014 onwards) concerns regional economic development taking an ecosystem-based view on innovation policy and explores the development of open innovation platforms and innovation ecosystems as engines of ecosystem renewal. The concepts of innovation ecosystem and open innovation platform have become popular within the literature on regional economic development recently, and likewise in policy and practice spheres, but remains theoretically under-developed and untested in diverse regional policy settings. Nordling´s research takes an action research (AR) approach to investigate the tenability of ecosystem incubation policies as a means to achieve goals of openness and inclusivity, and reach broad social and economic transformation.
She has also worked as conference secretary of international Ph.D. school on innovation and development (Globelics Academy) in 2013, 2015 and 2017 taking care of the practicalities of the academy and being part of the student selection board together with the TaSTI organizing team.
