Education: Licentiate in Administrative Sciences

Position: Senior Researcher

Current research projects: Mika Raunio leads the "Open innovation platforms" -project in UTA, as a part of the national 6cities strategy, being the major national strategy developing the innovation environments of the six largest cities in Finland (2015-2017). Mika is also project manager in Responsible Research and Innovaiton -project (2017-2019) that aims to foster the responsibility in regional innovaiton policy in Tampere region, as a part of the European wide development project. In 2013-2015 he led the "Inclusive innovaiton environment and immigration" project (Tekes) and is now working as external expert in follow-up project headed by VTT and funded by Finnish government, to design the policy solutions based on the earlier findings and international experiences explored in current project. He is also working in Smart-com project headed by TaSTI/UTA focusing on innovative solutions in urban development in Namibia 2016-2018 (Tekes). He also worked previously in project Enabling Innovation Beyond National Systems of Innovation  - IBIS (Tekes), which explored the trans-nationalizing innovation policy-models in Finland. Policy models from India and Silicon Valley are used to reflect the Finnish policy models.

He has also provided consulting and expertise services for both national and international agencies (e.g. OECD on innovaiton platforms http://www.oecd.org/sti/PolicyPaper_Keynote_Heitor-with%20cover.pdf)

He is also academic coordinator of International Ph.D.-school on innovation and development (Globelics Academy) in Tampere from 2008 on (www.globelics.org)


Raunio's dissertation is Immigration and Innovation: Connecting regional innovation environments with global pool of human capital: co-evolutionary process in case Finland.

Research interests: Global mobility of experts and highly-skilled, internationalisation of experts labour markets, global attractiveness of
innovation environments, regional development and human resources
