North American Studies offers a wide variety of courses that every student studying at the University of Tampere is free to enroll on. Each year, we organize a few different kinds of lecture courses and seminar courses. Study practices between different courses vary, but most lecture courses can be completed by attending the lectures, reading the assigned readings for them, and either by writing an essay (or essays) or by passing an exam (or exams) for the course. For the seminar courses, the students will take part in the seminar discussions, write a paper for the seminar and present it there.
There will not be lecture courses or seminars organised for all the NAM study modules. For these study modules, students are required to read assigned books write essays based on the books. Some study modules can also be completed by attending a sufficient amount of guest lectures and writing a lectury diary about them.
For more information on the usual study practices of each NAM study module, please visit the Curricula Guide, where all available NAM study modules are listed.
For more information on the lecture courses and seminars currently organized by NAM, please visit the Teaching Schedule.
