Although there is ample evidence and growing consciousness of the world as a single place with interdependences between national states, there is scarcity of knowledge about how national policies get synchronized. How do actors in national policymaking utilize international comparisons and other countries’ decisions? What leads to the creation of global trends and fashions as an upshot of interdependent decision-making? The project studies these questions by scrutinizing national policymaking in practice. A selection of parliamentary debates on new laws from 11 countries, both highly developed and developing countries, are the primary data analyzed.
