The Violence researchers (Väkivaltatutkijat) -network is an interdisciplinary research network aimed to gather researchers and post graduate students conducting research on gendered violence in Finland. The network was founded in December 2005. It organises an e-mail list and an annual seminar. The network gathered about 80 researchers and post graduate students in January 2008.
Research on gendered violence analyses different kinds of violence focusing on the themes of gender, sexuality and power. This includes violence to women, children, men and HLBTIQ people. Research on gendered violence analyses subjects and actors, as well as structures and cultural meanings. Violence is based on the asymmetric but dynamic power relationship characteristic of gender relations. Gender, sexuality and meanings of violence are, thus, constantly produced in different practices and meaning making processes. Gender intersects with other hierarchical differences, such as age, sexuality, class, 'race, and ethnicity.
