• (NB. There are other forms, tahi, taikka, tahikka, that are still used in some places.  With the pairs tahi ~ tai and tahikka ~ taikka, the h's have just dropped out and the forms that have preserved the h's are considered more archaic.  Taikka can be used, as far as I can tell, in all the same instances that tai is used.  Taikka is also used when the or in question is more of an afterthought that anything else, for instance:  Se, joka tuli kotiin myöhässä oli Pekka.  Taikka Matti. The one who came home late was Pekka, or (on second thought it could have been) Matti.)
