When t changes to s (and vice versa)

In some words where you would expect a t to be the norm, there an s actually appears. One of the most common words that belongs to this category of words is käsi 'hand'. Occasionally, you will come across words that have both variations as acceptable forms.

Nouns where -sV changes to -tV-/-dV- when being declined.

Nouns where -sV changes to something else or doesn't change at all when being declined. With the verbs, the infinitive form will be two or three syllables, the verb type will be type 1, and the t might have an n, r or l in front of it.

Verbs where  -tV-/-dV- changes to-sV when being declined.

Verbs with both variants accepted. Verbs that keep the t.
