The digital revolution and economic globalization are taking us into a new era. We are moving towards the global knowledge society where information, skills and competence become the driving forces of social and economic development. The problems associated with this transformation cannot any longer be solved by traditional means. Effective learning requires upgraded multimedia educational materials which can only be utilized with the broadband Internet.

The purpose of this conference is to brainstorm the establishment of advanced broadband Internet availability in major global regions of the Pacific/Asia, North and South America, and Europe and Africa. This includes the information infrastructure, contents and the institutionalization of the Global University System, and the financing.

The outcome of this conference would be the formulation of the pilot project proposals which will be submitted to the various financing bodies in Japan, North America, and in Europe.
