Transnational migration and development go hand in hand. People migrate to new countries but their ties to the communities or nations may remain. An increasing number of people belong to two or more countries simultaneously and they can influence all of them.

Although many questions related to development are linked to people's transnational movements, researchers focusing on development and migration often work separately. Moreover, although the last decade has seen a significant shift in thinking about the interconnections between migration and development, scientific and policy debates have been polarized. It is no wonder, therefore, that many questions related to development implications of transnational migration are insufficiently conceptualized.

The seminar addresses questions and issues concerning various aspects of interconnections between  transnational migration and development from interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral perspectives.

The seminar includes keynote speeches and a panel discussion. Key questions to be discussed  include: What are the (real or potential) development impacts of transnational migration on individual people and countries of origin and/or destination? Does development in the country of origin reduce or increase migration?
