Before Arrival Check Lists for Employees

aakkoset.jpg

The things you need to do before coming to Finland vary depending on whether you are an EU-citizen or come from other parts of the world.

Also, if you are working with a grant, you will have to take some special matters into consideration.

EU-/EEA-Citizens and Nordic Citizens

  • EU-citizens coming to Finland do not need to apply for a residence permit.
  • Please note! Employees from another EU/EEA -country or from Switzerland working simultaneously in two or more EU-countries must carry an A1 Certificate  (Certificate for the applicable social security system according to the EU Reglation no 884/2004) issued by an authority of their country of origin.
  • If you are planning to bring your family with you, please see: Family Permits

Before Arrival Check List

  1. Receive invitation letter from your host at the University of Tampere. (If needed)
  2. Organise accommodation (please act on this as soon as possible)
  3. Find out if your income is exempted from Finnish income tax.
  4. Obtain a letter of explanation from your doctor for any prescribed medications you may need to bring with you.
  5. Acquire a European Health Insurance Card from your home country before arriving in Finland.
  6. Please remember to take your your original degree certificates as well as your passport with you when coming to Finland. Even though the European Identity Card is sufficient for entering Finland and for registering your residence, the banks generally do not accept other means of identification than passport when you open a bank account.

It might be a good idea to photocopy all important documents that you will need in Finland and also take a copy of the personal details page of your passport and visa/residence permit stamp and send them to your email account, for example.
