The Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences (MED) decided to support two projects that are developing medical laboratory diagnostics and utilising related data. A donation from Fimlab Laboratories Oy enabled the grants.

The recipients are Professor Matti Nykter’s research group, which is studying cell-free DNA-based liquid biopsies for guiding cancer treatments, and University Researcher Pekka Ruusuvuori’s group that is analysing machine learning in digital pathology. Both groups received 50,000 euros.

Dean Tapio Visakorpi and CEO Ari Miettinen from Fimlab Laboratories announced the recipients at the BMT & MED Research Day, which was organised by the BioMediTech Institute and the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences on 26 October.
