The Strategic Research Council of the Academy of Finland granted a total of EUR 5.4 million to two research consortia at the University of Tampere.

Professor of International Relations Pami Aalto received EUR 2.8 million funding for his research consortium “Transition to a resource efficient and climate neutral electricity system (EL-TRAN)” from the Climate-Neutral and Resource-Scarce Finland SRC Programme.

The consortium will help to resolve policy problems involved in the transition to a resource efficient, climate neutral electricity system and outline a roadmap for the public sector to support the process.

Professor of Economics Matti Tuomala received EUR 2.6 million from the Equality in Society programme. The theme of Tuomala’s research is “Work, Inequality and Public Policy”.

The consortium will provide new evidence on trends in job polarisation, nonstandard forms of employment and their consequences. The study will also evaluate the effectiveness of present social and labour market policies from the perspective of meeting new social risks and new forms of employment.
