Important Dates and Graduation Ceremonies

Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students can primarily graduate during teaching periods. Faculties and degree programmes may have their own deadlines regarding graduation. A detailed timetable must be drawn up with your thesis supervisor.

Licentiate and doctoral students can graduate once a month.

You will receive a notification on Student's Desktop when your degree certificate is ready.

A joint graduation ceremony for all faculties is arranged twice a year. The ceremony for spring 2018 graduates will be held on 8 June 2018. The ceremony is conducted in Finnish. As registration for the ceremony differs from faculty to faculty, please contact your own faculty for further information. Members of the immediate family are welcome to attend the ceremony.

University of Tampere is organising the Doctoral Conferment Ceremony of all the Faculties of the University of Tampere on 16 – 18 August 2018.

Important dates in the spring of 2018

Bachelor’s degree

Degree programmes/supervisors provide more detailed schedules and instructions on submitting bachelor’s theses for examination! The examiner must evaluate the thesis within four weeks of the student in question completing the maturity test.

4 May 2018 Maturity test

6 June 2018 Certificate application to be submitted through NettiOpsu if graduation by 20 June 2018 is intended. All completed course units and module grades to be included in the degree must be in the register.

20 June 2018 Last date for certificate issue in June.

By observing the schedule specified above, you ensure that the certificate is completed before the end of June. The Language Centre will accept maturity tests (content examined) until 11 June 2018.

Master’s degree

The specific schedule must be agreed upon with the supervisor! The degree programme/supervisor provides more specific instructions on the pre-examination of the master’s thesis and the Turnitin originality check! In the event that the thesis summary serves as the maturity test, the examiners of the thesis must provide their statement within three weeks of the thesis being submitted for assessment.

27 April 2018 Master’s thesis must be submitted for examination through NettiOpsu if a separate maturity essay is to be written in conjunction with the thesis and graduation is intended by 20 June 2018.

4 May 2018 Master’s thesis must be submitted for examination through NettiOpsu if the thesis summary is to serve as the maturity test and graduation is intended by 20 June 2018.

6 June 2018 Certificate application to be submitted through NettiOpsu if graduation by 20 June 2018 is intended. All completed course units and module grades to be included in the degree must be in the register.

20 June 2018 Last date for certificate issue in June.

31 July 2018 Latest submission of the certificate application; application will be processed in the beginning of August.

Graduation in spring 2018

The graduation ceremony will be held on Friday 8 June 2018. If you wish to receive your master’s degree by the time of the ceremony, please submit your certificate application no later than Wednesday 23 May 2018.

Applications can be submitted until the end of the spring semester on 31 July 2018. However, those who submit the application towards the end may not receive their certificate until early August. The certificate can still be dated for July if all completed course units have been recorded by 31 July 2018.

Graduation in the spring 2018

Those who follow the schedule provided below will receive their degree certificates before the summer break.

See more specific schedule regarding the master’s thesis.

Degree certificates applied via NettiOpsu at latest on Wed June 13, 2018 are guaranteed to be delivered before summer holidays. Degree certificate can be applied also later, and those will be handled by the end of August 2018.

Graduation ceremony

Students who complete an undergraduate or postgraduate degree during the semester in question are invited to take part in the graduation ceremony. Among students who complete a Bachelor of Education degree, only graduates of the early education programme are invited to attend.

The ceremony for spring 2018 graduates will be held on Fri June 8, 2018. The ceremony is in Finnish. See the programme of the ceremony.

Important dates in spring 2018

 

Master’s degree

You must agree on a detailed schedule with your supervisor. Your degree programme/supervisor gives specific instructions on the preliminary evaluation and originality check in Turnitin. If you write a summary of your thesis (in the case that you have taken a maturity test for your Bachelor’s thesis), the thesis examiners must give their statement within three weeks after you have submitted your thesis for evaluation.

Fri 4 May 2018        Master’s thesis submitted for evaluation in NettiOpsu in the case of a summary instead of a maturity test. If a separate maturity test is taken, the thesis must be submitted for evaluation in NettiOpsu on 27 April 2018.

Tue 12 June 2018    All course units and study modules of the degree must be registered in your transcript if you plan to graduate by 20 June 2018.

Wed 13 June 2018   Degree certificate application to be submitted in NettiOpsu if you plan to graduate by 20 June 2018.

Wed 20 June 2018  Last day in June to issue degree certificates. The certificates are not issued in July.

Tue 31 July 2018     You may apply for the degree certificate until the end of spring semester 31 July 2018. If you submit your degree certifice application by 31 July 2018, your certificate may be processed in August. However, the degree certificate may then be backdated to July given that all courses have been registered by 31 July 2018.

Graduation ceremony

The graduation ceremony will be held on Friday 8 June 2018. Graduates of the Faculty of Management will assemble at the Paavo Koli Hall at 17.00 to receive a rose each. We will then proceed to the University graduation ceremony in the Main Building. Master’s and Doctoral degree graduates of this spring are also welcome to the ceremony. If you wish to finish your Master’s degree before the graduation ceremony, please submit a degree certificate application on Wednesday 23 May 2018 at the latest. To participate in the ceremony, please enroll online by 28 May.

In the Faculty of Natural Sciences, degree certificates are produced during term time on Wednesdays (not during holidays).

Graduation ceremony

Faculty of Social Sciences

Graduation in spring 2018

The final certificates of the spring semester will be granted on 20 June 2018. The certificate application must be submitted through NettiOpsu no later than 13 June 2018.

The graduation ceremony for master’s degree graduates of the spring semester will be held on 8 June 2018. Please enroll for the ceremony using an eForm. If you wish to receive your Master’s degree by the time of the ceremony, please submit your certificate application no later than Wednesday 30 May 2018.

Licentiate and Doctoral Degrees

The Faculty Councils, which decide on the acceptance of licentiate theses and doctoral dissertations, convene once a month. There are no Faculty Council meetings in July. The degree certificate will be awarded after you have submitted the application for a degree certificate (students of Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences do not have to submit an application) and your licentiate thesis or doctoral dissertation has been accepted by the Faculty Council.
