Selection criteria

Students selected for exchange must have completed course units that support the admission. Their academic performance must be good and they must have completed at least one year’s – or in some cases two year’s – worth of studies by the beginning of the exchange period. In addition to this, the applicant must be proficient in English or, depending on the exchange location, in another language.

Bilateral partner universities as well as NORDLYS, FIRST, BCI, north2north and ISEP

In the internal application process of the University of Tampere, the selections are made

  • in accordance with the receiving university’s requirements (language proficiency requirements, for example)
  • in accordance with the following criteria:
    • motivation letter and study plan: the usefulness of the studies completed at the university in question during the exchange period in terms of the student’s degree and possible later career
    • opportunities to travel abroad for student exchange at a later time
    • possible prior student exchange (positive or negative depending on the location) and possible grants from the University of Tampere
    • completion of studies at the targeted rate: approx. 30 credits/semester
    • grades
    • discipline: where possible, we try to select exchange students from all faculties and all degree programmes

Erasmus exchange, faculties’ bilateral partner universities and field-specific NORDPLUS networks

In the internal application process of the University of Tampere, the selections are made

  • according to the field of the Erasmus agreement: students of the degree programme specified in the agreement take priority
    • if the field has not been defined, students of the faculty in question take priority in relation to students of other units
  • in accordance with the receiving university’s requirements (language proficiency requirements, for example)
  • in accordance with the following criteria:

    • completion of studies at the targeted rate: approx. 30 credits/semester
